This weekend I finally visited Annie’s Attic Thrift Shop And Cat Cafe for the first time. “Finally” because Annie’s Attic has been around for five years, so really, I have no excuse for having waited this long.
I am glad I went, though, because it was an all-around enjoyable experience.
Annie’s Attic has been open since 2021 and is affiliated with D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre. As a non-profit, all proceeds from the thrift store and the cat cafe support the animals at the rescue centre.
The first thing you notice when you enter the store is that it’s very well-maintained, clean, and welcoming. It has a whimsical flair, and although the store isn’t big, it utilizes its space well without feeling crowded.
The second thing you’ll notice is the cat cafe, which takes up the centre of the store. It has a nice selection of coffee beverages and baked goods. On my visit, I had a coffee and a slice of the zucchini bread. Both were excellent.
The star of the show is obviously the cats who make Annie’s Attic an actual cat cafe. They have their own room in the corner next to the cash register and the jewelry display case.
While I didn’t visit the kitties this time, I hope to do so soon. The entry fee is a minimum donation of $5, and visits are normally limited to 15 minutes. But from what I hear, if no one else is waiting, you may stay longer.
The cats are all provided and adopted through D’Arcy’s A.R.C. And if you already have a furry friend, guess what: Annie’s Attic offers pet supplies, which you can find along the back wall.
Back to the thrift shop. On my visit, I purchased a book and was told that books are always Buy 1, Get 2 Free. I didn’t take advantage of the offer this time, but it’s great to know for my next visit.
I also bought a handful of 45s. Their vinyl record selection isn’t big, but it’s much better curated than what you’ll find at most thrift stores. I could have easily grabbed more 45s and even a few LPs, ones that you wouldn’t necessarily come across at other stores.
The rest of the store is what you would expect to find at a thrift store: clothing, home decor, and housewares, but you can really feel the care that goes into providing great thrift items at very reasonable prices.
Would I recommend Annie’s Attic to others? Absolutely, and I actually already have.
I think this store will appeal to many, not just thrift lovers. And with a little luck, in addition to thrifted goodies and a nice cup of coffee, you may be able to welcome a new furry friend to your home.
